Nightlife
SMILE! You're in Mumbai...the epicenter of entertainment
in India.
The last few years have seen Mumbai nightlife reaching
a feverish pitch with the influx of global entertainment
brands in India.
Lots of new nightclubs and bars have popped up in
Mumbai in the last couple of years offering the nocturnal
tourist a wide variety of places to choose from like
cocktail clubs, hard-rock spots, pubs, coffeehouses
and piano-bar restaurants scattered throughout the
city. The music menu is enticing too- techno, rock,
jazz, western...
The uptown area is where all the magic of English-style
pubs still lingers, with places like Leopold's and
Cafe Mondegar's being the hot favorites. These are
frequented by foreigners, but are a hit with native
insomniacs too. A few clubs catering to the teenyboppers
have sprung up in the western suburbs of Mumbai, usually
playing loud pop or bollywood music.
Club regulars are an eclectic mix of the film-star
wannabes of Bandra, the yuppies of the Mulund and
the alternative-lifestylers of Kandivli. Overall,
however, the Mumbai night goers hail from all corners
of the city.
Being a costal city, Mumbai is linear and that makes
commuting a lot easier here unlike other metros like
Delhi or Chennai. The public transport in Mumbai too
is reliable and available till the wee hours of the
night or early morning. Most clubs have a cover charge
or entrance fee (100-400 rupees per head) and close
around midnight.
Just follow the neon lights to the Mumbai nightclubs
and late-night hotspots or try the traditional favorites
