1903 A.D. Taj Mahal Hotel opened at Appolo Bunder.

1904 A.D. Cooperage Ground opened to public.

1905 A.D. Visit of Prince of Wales to Mumbai.

1909 A.D. Majestic Hotel opened.

1913 A.D. The first ever Indian film ' Raja Harishchandra' made by Dada Saheb Phalke released.

1914 A.D. Completion of the Prince of Wales Museum in Mumbai.

1918 A.D. The first ever historical strike of the industrial workers in Mumbai.

1919 A.D. Sad demise of Lokmanya TilakMahatma Gandhi's non co-operation movement took off.

1920 A.D. Royal institute of Science started in Mumbai.

1922 A.D. Grand Hotel (Ballard Pier) a landmark building started & primary Education Act Passed.

1923 A.D. Prince of Wales Museum opened.

1924 A.D. Gateway of India in Mumbai Inauguarated

1926 A.D. First motor bus service in Mumbai from Afghan Church to Crawford Market started.

1931 A.D. Borough Municipal Offices established at Parle & Andheri. The first ever Indian talkie film ' Alam Aara' released.

1933 A.D.

Regal Cinema Opened.


1938 A.D. Metro & Eros cinemas started.

1939 A.D.

Construction work of the Poddar College completed.


1940 A.D. Marine Drive built.

1941 A.D.

Construction work of the Tat Memorial Hospital completed.


1942 A.D. Quit India Movement launched at Gowalia Tank.

1944 A.D. A very heavy explosion in the Victoria Dock.

1945 A.D. Grater Bombay came into existance.

1946 A.D. BEST transferred to the Mumbai Municipal Corporation.

1947 A.D. India became independence.

1948 A.D. Formation of the ' Air India'.

1950 A.D. Suburban Areas merged with the Municipal area of Mumbai.

1952 A.D. Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium opened at Haji Ali.

1955 A.D. Construction of the Mantralaya building completed.

1960 A.D. Mumbai crowned as the Capital of the State of Maharashtra.

1995 A.D. Bombay renamed officially as Mumbai.
